01 · One queue

One continuous mix of podcasts and music.

Episodes and songs share one queue. Set how many songs play between episodes and PodMelody weaves them: a show, a couple of tracks to clear your head, the next show, and then your music gets its turn again. Reorder anything, anytime.

02 · Speed & silence

Fast, but it still sounds like a voice.

Podcast speed runs from 0.5× to 3.0× in 0.1× steps, and it doesn't have to be one number for everything — any show can keep its own, so a dense interview sits at 1.2× while a host you know well runs at 2.4×. Set it once and PodMelody remembers which is which, and a voice still sounds like a voice well past 2.0×. Songs are never sped up; music plays at the tempo it was recorded. Silence compression — part of Pro audio in Plus — quietly trims the dead air between sentences. And speed knows when to step back: laughter-aware playback, also in Plus and analysed entirely on device, eases off automatically when laughter is detected, giving jokes and reactions room to land before returning to your chosen pace.

PodMelody can also take the work off the iPhone: switch on pre-processing and downloaded episodes are re-rendered at your speed ahead of time, so what plays in the car is an ordinary file at 1.0×. That matters most on the dash, where navigating and playing audio already make an iPhone run hot without live audio processing on top. Preparing an episode is a great deal quicker than it once was, and the status button on Home shows each pass as it runs.Device Activity, opened from the cloud at the top left of Home, shows each pass as it runs.

03 · CarPlay

PodMelody brings enhanced Now Playing controls to the dash, with big glanceable targets and cover art you can read at a glance. Change speed, skip a song, jump to the next episode. PodMelody Plus adds the same interleaved Queue as your phone, along with Mix and Browse. Plus also gives the car its own podcast speeds — a separate default that takes over the moment CarPlay connects, with per-show overrides to match, because what reads fine on headphones is usually a shade too quick over road noise. You can reshape the mix itself from the driver's seat too — switch the music source feeding the queue, or change how many songs play between episodes, so the drive out can lean on music and the drive home can go back to talk.

04 · Offline & sync

Ready before you go, and it keeps your place.

Every episode in your queue downloads automatically, and any other is a swipe away. With Plus, PodMelody keeps your whole library ready — every show and station, the moment you open the app and in the background when iOS allows it — so your shows are ready for the subway, the flight and the dead zone on the drive. Your position travels with them, so picking the same episode up on your iPad starts you where you stopped rather than back at the beginning.

05 · Keep & organise

Six separate shows, or one station.

Your shows organise into stations — named sets like Commute or The Long Drive Home — so building a mix means picking a station rather than tapping through six separate shows; a show can sit in more than one, and a station counts as one source however many it holds. Choose your sources, hit Start Mix, and the queue builds from there. Bookmark a moment you want to come back to, and chapters, per-show settings and a proper library round it out.

06 · More room

Sideways, or on the big screen, nothing has to hide.

PodMelody is made for iPhone Duo. Closed, your mix and its player are right there on the cover screen, so a mix can be started and steered without opening the phone. Open it out and the player carries on full size, with the queue and episode details beside it; turn it sideways and Music and Podcasts open side by side as one spread. In Editorial, half-fold it and Now Playing splits at the fold, and every page keeps its controls clear of the hinge. System's player is laid out for the Duo too.

The landscape view started on iPad and has now come to iPhone. Turn the phone sideways and Now Playing spreads into two panes — the cover on one side, the timeline and what's coming up on the other; in System, tap Timeline to see the whole episode, its chapters and the time your speed saves. The rest of the app follows suit: Home, the podcast and music grids, episode lists and show notes all make proper use of the width instead of stretching the portrait layout. Turn it back and portrait is exactly as it was.

iPad got more room too. The player takes the whole screen rather than sitting in a sheet, with the queue and episode details beside it, and turned sideways, Music and Podcasts share one two-page spread in either look, so you can pick sources from both at once. Long lists and show notes settle into a comfortable reading column, and the iPad app on a Mac reflows more gracefully as you resize its window.

07 · Ask Siri

Made for iOS 27: your shows, by name.

On iOS 27, Siri can play the things in your PodMelody library by name: a show, a podcast station or an Apple Music playlist. Ask it to skip back, change the speed, set a sleep timer, or say what's playing. Your followed shows, stations and episodes appear in Spotlight search too.

Some words Siri keeps for itself, and a few phrasings work better than others. The guide lists what to say, and what not to.

08 · Two looks

Two looks, one mix.

PodMelody has two looks. System is bold and glossy: a glass-domed cover that catches the light as you tilt your phone, glossy controls, a backdrop drawn from the artwork, and Start Mix as a lit glass plate over a wall of your covers. Editorial is calm, PodMelody's own design: warm paper, serif titles, hairline rules. Both are included free, in light, dark or automatic appearance. A new install asks you to choose on first launch, a look you already use stays as it is, and Settings → Appearance switches any time.

PodMelody Plus adds an accent colour that follows you to every device through iCloud: a choice of 28 for Editorial's marks and plates, and 18 of System's own. The same Home is shown in both looks here, with four selected sources, which is within what a Free mix includes.

Build the mix

Core

Mix individual shows, Podcast Stations, Apple Music playlists and Apple Music stations.
Choose how many songs sit between episodes, whether talk or music starts, and whether playlists shuffle.
Rotate music sources song by song or break by break, in the order you choose.
Inspect, reorder, remove, jump through or clear the rolling queue as it refills.
Tap an episode or song to play it now, slipped in ahead of Up Next, and the mix carries on afterwards; long-press for Play Next or Play Last instead.
Use Play On Its Own for one show, station or playlist without changing the mix you saved.
Search Music and Podcasts from one row, show only what is queued, and set the playback order from the same menu.

Your podcast library

Core

Search for shows, add RSS and private feeds, or import from Apple Podcasts and OPML.
Try a show before you follow it: a show found in search lists its newest episodes to play or add to Up Next.
Group shows into reusable Podcast Stations; one show can belong to more than one.
Search, sort and filter episodes by unplayed, played or skipped state.
Read show notes, browse chapters, jump by chapter and see chapter artwork when a show provides it.
Episode details keep Chapters, Notes and Transcript in tabs, with a Now button back to what's playing.
Keep bookmarks, share public episodes, receive new-episode alerts and revisit listening history.

Apple Music, in its place

Core

Browse and search library playlists, Apple recommendations and Apple Music stations.
Take exactly one song from a station for each music slot, then return to PodMelody's queue.
Play a track or station immediately when you do not want to build a full mix.
Add tracks to your library, Favourite, Suggest Less, or open the current song in Apple Music.
Music always plays at its recorded tempo, regardless of podcast speed.

Playback that remembers

Core

Listen from 0.5× to 3.0× in 0.1× steps, with a different remembered speed for every show.
PodMelody uses its own audio time-compression algorithm, tuned to keep podcast speech clear at faster speeds.
Start listening while an episode downloads, then move smoothly to the local file.
Pre-process episodes at your speed in the background, optionally only while charging; with Plus, pre-processed episodes carry Voice Enhancement and Volume Levelling too.
Pick up a partially played episode with a short context rewind, so you hear the last few seconds again instead of landing mid-thought.
Press Next with two minutes or less to go and the episode is marked played; earlier, it's marked skipped. Hold Next for more choices.
Use the Sleep Timer for a chosen number of minutes or to stop when the current episode ends.
On iPad, see the episode waveform and time-saved views; in System, turn iPhone sideways and tap Timeline for the whole episode, its chapters and the time your speed saves.
Filter episodes and songs labelled explicit, with the same Explicit Content toggle available in CarPlay.

Pro audio

Plus

Voice enhancement adds speed-aware clarity and gentle speech compression.
Volume levelling keeps podcasts consistent; with Sound Check enabled in Apple Music, your shows and songs stay closer to the same level.
Silence compression shortens dead air without touching the music.
On-device sound analysis can label the moment and ease the speed around laughter.

Every episode in your queue downloads automatically; swipe to download any other.
PodMelody Plus keeps your whole library ready: a chosen number of unplayed episodes, with individual limits for shows and stations.
