01 · One queue
Episodes and songs share one queue. Set how many songs play between episodes and PodMelody weaves them: a show, a couple of tracks to clear your head, the next show, and then your music gets its turn again. Reorder anything, anytime.
02 · Speed & silence
Podcast speed runs from 0.5× to 3.0× in 0.1× steps, and it doesn't have to be one number for everything — any show can keep its own, so a dense interview sits at 1.2× while a host you know well runs at 2.4×. Set it once and PodMelody remembers which is which, and a voice still sounds like a voice well past 2.0×. Songs are never sped up; music plays at the tempo it was recorded. Silence compression — part of Pro audio in Plus — quietly trims the dead air between sentences. And speed knows when to step back: laughter-aware playback, also in Plus and analysed entirely on device, eases off automatically when laughter is detected, giving jokes and reactions room to land before returning to your chosen pace.
Plus can also take the work off the iPhone: switch on pre-processing and downloaded episodes are re-rendered at your speed ahead of time, so what plays in the car is an ordinary file at 1.0×. That matters most on the dash, where navigating and playing audio already make an iPhone run hot without live audio processing on top. Preparing an episode is a great deal quicker than it once was, and the status button on Home shows each pass as it runs.
03 · CarPlay
PodMelody brings enhanced Now Playing controls to the dash, with big glanceable targets and cover art you can read at a glance. Change speed, skip a song, jump to the next episode. PodMelody Plus adds the same interleaved Queue as your phone, along with Mix and Browse. Plus also gives the car its own podcast speeds — a separate default that takes over the moment CarPlay connects, with per-show overrides to match, because what reads fine on headphones is usually a shade too quick over road noise. You can reshape the mix itself from the driver's seat too — switch the music source feeding the queue, or change how many songs play between episodes, so the drive out can lean on music and the drive home can go back to talk.
04 · Offline & sync
New episodes download automatically — the moment you open PodMelody, and in the background when iOS allows it — so the subway, the flight and the dead zone on the drive are covered. Your position travels with them, so picking the same episode up on your iPad starts you where you stopped rather than back at the beginning.
05 · Keep & organise
Your shows organise into stations — named sets like Commute or The Long Drive Home — so building a mix means picking a station rather than tapping through six separate shows; a show can sit in more than one, and a station counts as one source however many it holds. Choose your sources, hit Start Mix, and the queue builds from there. Bookmark a moment you want to come back to, and chapters, per-show settings and a proper library round it out.
06 · More room
The landscape view started on iPad and has now come to iPhone. Turn the phone sideways and Now Playing spreads into two panes — the cover on one side, the timeline and what's coming up on the other — and the rest of the app follows suit: Home, the podcast and music grids, episode lists and show notes all make proper use of the width instead of stretching the portrait layout. Turn it back and portrait is exactly as it was.
iPad got more room too. The player and the queue now take the whole screen rather than sitting in a sheet, long lists and show notes settle into a comfortable reading column, and the iPad app on a Mac reflows more gracefully as you resize its window.
